Minute For Safety

This Minute For Safety comes courtesy of Doug Casteel

Doug Casteel is a member and Past President of Missouri III and current Midwest International Representative for the Blue Knights Int’l LEMC.  Doug has 51 years riding experience, 7 of those years on motors.

“LEAVE YOUR BIKE IN GEAR AT INTERSECTIONS!

I have preached that often to people I see pop their bikes into neutral when stopped.  Today was a perfect example of why.   I was the first vehicle at the intersection on a 4-lane state highway.  I heard the unmistakable bang from a vehicle crash behind me.  I immediately let out the clutch and moved a bike length forward (all I could do because of cross traffic) and then looked in my mirror to see the vehicle directly behind me rolling forward after being struck from behind.  If I had been in neutral, it would have been a 3-vehicle collision instead of 2.  So keep your bike in gear and have an escape route in mind.”

Thanks Doug for sharing,  and for all of us - Ride With Pride.
